Asset and Expense Management
The COMIT asset management sub-system provides you with the software platform to inventory every piece of physical equipment and all data, video and voice circuits in a single repository--the foundation to an effective expense management process. In addition, COMIT's structured service order process uses integrated business rules to ensure that your inventory records stay current even as daily changes are made via service additions, changes, and deletions.
COMIT integrates asset management (inventory) and service order processing (MAC) to accurately track assets. With global circuit inventory and converged network IP asset management that goes beyond the TDM network, COMIT provides a true, single repository of all I.T. equipment (i.e., wireline, wireless, cell phones, PDA's, laptops, service, router, switch, firewall, servers, cross connects, cell phone, card, workstation, monitor, modems, csu/dsu, etc.), circuits and software including critical information relating to license, release, and configuration.
COMIT is the tool that provides you with the information to:
- properly audit & verify invoices
- respond to CFO requests with current information
- comply with Sarbanes Oxley Act requirements
- confirm that vendor invoices are accurate
- provide savings with vendors based upon SLA requirements
- maintain lower inventories while achieving faster provisioning
- eliminate vendor over-billing and repeat billing
- display departmental billing reports through a web browser for viewing by any pre-authorized user
- allocate charges back to the proper departments
- accommodate both administrative and resale billing, allowing you to capture more I.T. revenues
- accurately project future expenses for the CIO
- maintain trouble reporting histories for managing your SLA's with your vendors
Switch Provisioning
For landline voice services, a significant amount of manual effort is generally involved to configure the voice switch for the features, line appearances, authorization codes, etc. that are unique to each station. With COMIT switch provisioning there is no need to manually make those programming changes in the switch. COMIT Switch Provisioning is integrated with the service order/service request processes to perform software-based Move, Add, Change and Delete (MACD) activities directly to the switch. Using a browser GUI, the user merely populates the requested features on the selected keys of the telephone sets and COMIT immediately performs feature-to-feature and feature-to-set edits prior to issuing commands to the switch. All features are tracked, by key, for each station.
In addition to updating your switch with MACD program changes, COMIT also makes sure that our application is always in sync with your switch. The COMIT synchronization process continually polls the switch during off hours to keep the COMIT database perfectly aligned with your switch for accurate reporting, billing, and troubleshooting.
Whether you operate a TDM switch, VoIP switch or hybrid environment, COMIT Switch Provisioning allows you to reduce costly switch programming and accurately chargeback for all features programmed on each station. COMIT supports the following switch platforms:
Nortel (now Avaya)
- DMS Central office switch
- CS1000 (formerly known as SL1 and Meridian)
- SL100
- CS2100
LGS (formerly Lucent)
- 5ESS
- 5420CTS

Equipment Inventory
The COMIT equipment inventory administration function provides the tools to allow organizations to define and track any tangible asset (equipment) or intangible asset (such as a software license) on a system-wide basis. Once defined, COMIT then tracks those assets by user. All assets are automatically updated for each user when service order or incident report processing is completed to ensure that your records stay current even while your environment is constantly changing. COMIT provides the information needed to verify vendor billing and charge back departments for communications equipment and other soft assets.
COMIT allows you to transfer inventory assets between multiple warehouses or technician carts and still provides a consolidated inventory review. COMIT also lets administrative users define rates and product code descriptions, effect mass updates to the system, and track warranty and serial number information for each product code.

Incident Reporting
The incident administration module is an integrated function of the COMIT system that provides the ability to create and manage incident reporting for your entire converged network (TDM, IP, and VoIP). The COMIT incident administration function combines the incident reporting, expert systems, and help desk functions into a single module.
COMIT incident administration populates all known information about the station or the IP node, i.e. location, person, desktop equipment, configuration and cable information into the incident report to reduce the time necessary to create the incident and to provide all the necessary information to quickly resolve the issue. After the report is completed, the expert systems module then initiates the work-flow process to appropriately route the issue based upon its classification. Additionally, COMIT provides information needed to verify vendor billing, charge back departments for billable repairs, track warranty, and identify repair vendor assigned.

COMIT standard incident reporting administration reports include: the incident completion report, fault management report, most common incidents by reported cause, resolutions, and test results codes report, incident reporting status report, and incident by location report. As incidents are reported, COMIT updates the TechView display of the circuits or devices to provide a quick visual display of problems for all help desk personnel.

Service Orders
The COMIT service order administration function manages activities for moves, adds, changes, and disconnections of service and equipment. The service order automatically updates equipment inventory, station assigned inventory, cable inventory and station billing and tracks pending, completed, and held service orders. Because COMIT is designed to manage your converged network, the service order function handles all types of I.T. service requests including laptops, servers, monitors, software, desk phones, wireless devices, voice and data jacks, software, etc.
Service order administration includes the following functions:
- the immediate population of existing location, station, set and cable information
- query of any possible pending orders by other service requests
- the real-time editing of new information
- the establishment of each ordered service as a permanent record and the start of the billing process by the service order completion process
- immediate automatic update of translations for specified switch/server types
- generation of reports to monitor service activity (which may be printed or viewed on-line)
Additional capabilities of the service order function include:
- tracking of assigned technician
- work flow administration to manage hand-off between different work groups from the approval process, scheduling, assignment, dispatch, switching, and technician
- the ability to assign equipment or services to a station or circuit number
- tracking of material used to complete the order-or activities that are not carried as inventory-to the station or circuit for billing

TechView Device & Cable Management
COMIT provides a robust converged network management solution that provides a visual representation of an integrated data and voice network, combined with the cable infrastructure, displayed on multiple levels. This allows quick access to the information you need to track, manage, and report on every element of your global converged network, including: switches, routers, servers, phones, terminals, printers, cables, VoIP, wireless, voice, and all other network components.
COMIT's TechView
- lets you view the entire network in easy-to-understand, graphical diagrams
- provides quick management insight regarding work levels (orders and tickets) at different locations
- processes work orders/incident reporting for complex cable/data network elements via easy-to-use "drag and drop" functionality
- tracks and maintains inventory ‘bill of materials’ profile for all components – Equipment, cards in that equipment, ports, etc.
- provides visibility into rack configurations and component locations
- allows drill down from sites to buildings, rooms, and floors
- provides a catalogue to quickly find any network element (i.e. location, equipment, etc)
- provides access to service order and other related COMIT screens from a component icon
- automatically populates service orders with common field information
- view and maintain conduit configurations
Cable Path
The COMIT build/display cable path module is a tool that allows organizations to manage their converged cable plant. COMIT allows you to define all of the relevant components to build detailed cable paths from start to end so that you can easily track a path, including all of the relevant cross connection points. COMIT allows you to verify cable usage and capacity, automatically reserve cable paths as part of the Service Order process, and view cables by location so that you can proactively manage your cable plant rather than simply react to problems.
COMIT's cable reports allow you to search from any point in the cable path (beginning at either end or any cross-connect point such as frame, cable, pair, jack, LENS set, person, IP address, etc) and displays the entire cable path for quick reference and problem solving.
COMIT's cable reports allow you to search from any point in the cable path (beginning at either end or any middle cross-connect) and displays the entire cable path. The last pair listed is the one closest to the switch or terminating frame. Reports are available from any point in the circuit; for example, from frames, cables, pairs, jacks, LENS, set, person, and IP.
